Two examples of benchmark projects

Benchmarking of public bus transport in 4 major Danish cities (2000)

In this project, carried out by PLS RAMBOLL Management, a benchmarking exercise has been carried out as part of a study into the efficiency of local transport services provided through outsourcing versus through council operations. The project has focused on public bus services in the Greater Copenhagen area, Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg. Applying a Benchmarking methodology has enabled a better comparison of the transport operations studied. More information can be found in the background paper.

Benchmarking of ports (1996)

The project "Benchmarking of ports - possibilities for increased efficiency of ports" has been completed by a project team comprising PLS Consult A/S, LGC-Consult ApS, Kollberg & Co., and RAMBØLL, with PLS Consult as project managers. The project has been carried out on behalf of the Danish Transport Council.

The purpose of the project has been to "analyse factors that seem to determine the usage of the ports (attractiveness) and efficiency". In the project, characteristics of the most efficient ports, best practices, key challenges, recommendations and perspectives in relation to increasing the efficiency of the ports’ role in the transport chain have been identified.

More information on this project can be found in the background paper.
